Physiological effects:

• Gymnema sylvestre is an Indian vine whose roots, leaves and gymnemic acid and gourmet, which have been found to be their active ingredients, have been used as medicinal plants in India for more than 2,000 years. Other substances found in the plant include tartaric acid, calcium oxalate, glucose, stigmasterol, betaine and choline. The Hindu name of the plant is “gurmar” or literally translated as “sugar destroyer”.
• In addition, gymnamic acid reduces the absorption of carbohydrates in the digestive tract, which means that the sugar in the diet is not completely absorbed and blood sugar cannot rise and fall sharply. This will prevent fatigue and other symptoms caused by blood sugar fluctuations.
• Experiments in healthy volunteers have shown that Gymnema sylvestre does not lower your normal blood sugar or cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar).
